I really enjoy writing, as I’ve said several times in the past. However, inspiration hits at random times. I came up with what I considered a brilliant solution. It would give me multiple topics to write about and leave me with a post per day for an entire year. My plan was to think upContinue reading “Never fails.”

Old cast iron griddle.
A word of warning.
As most who read my blog knows, ours is a micro homestead effort. And I mean really small. As such, it’s easy to take things for granted or maybe cut corners. I did both with my chicken coop. I have lumber laying around waiting to be used and several types of fencing, allContinue reading “A word of warning.”
Twelve so far.
Out of the 30 + large containers we was given, I have filled 12 so far. And I consider myself rather fortunate in that I’m not paying to fill them with dirt. I’m using a technique called Hugelkultur. I have so much old wood laying around from old trees that it only makes senseContinue reading “Twelve so far.”
For every step forward,
It seems there are two steps bacwards. We are making progress, though the efforst seems a bit like swimming against the current at the moment. I had planted a little over 1,000 plants this Spring, things were growing great and a hail storm came slong and wiped most of it out. Some are making aContinue reading “For every step forward,”

I enjoy writing, as I’m sure I’ve mentioned numerous times. I find myself in a situation where I must better my situation for the boys’Continue reading “New venture ahead.”
Dandelions
One of the earliest flowering plants and an important early food source for pollinators. Many frown upon the lowly dandelion as it’s bright yellow flowers pop up in their nicely manicured green lawns. They’ll dig them out or spray them with chemicals to kill them off. Meanwhile, children make wishes as theyContinue reading “Dandelions”
Starting Chives
I’ll start out by saying there are as many ways of doing something as there are people doing it. You may like my way, or you may choose another that works best for you. I’ve had good luck so far using my method, and so I thought I’d share, incase it might help someone else.Continue reading “Starting Chives”
Progress
My raised bed Garden I made is doing well, plants are thriving, and the soil is alive, as witnessed by the fungi that keeps popping up. I planted one hundred onion sets, not sure how many radishes and black carrots I planted, but the carrots are coming up good. And there are a few leeks.Continue reading “Progress”
