Sometimes, it drives us to do more or do better. Other times we just feel like giving up.
Yesterday, I was given an opportunity to get a decent working generator. The only catch was that I had to go get it.
My pickup has sat for most of the last three years because the front end is worn out. I have the parts to rebuild it but never seem to find the time to do it.
My procrastination cost me the generator. While the front end is shot, it would have worked to pick it up. So even though it’s too late for one opportunity, I won’t miss the next one and I have a lot of things that I need to deal with that have been put off because of the truck being down.
Today, I got tags for it, and on the next warm day, I will start putting parts on and will do some here and there as time allows until it’s done. It’s either that or pay someone else nearly $800 to install my $800 worth of parts that have sat patiently in their boxes waiting to put into service.
With any luck, I will need it for an auction coming up this Saturday. There is a log splitter that I am hoping to have the winning bid on.
It’s more log splitter than I really need, so to my way of thinking, it should last a good long time. At my age, I may likely never need another, but time will tell.
In any event, this disappointment for me has built a fire, and I’m using that fire to finish several projects that have been on the back burner for a bit too long.
Don’t let disappointment get you down, learn from it, and like a box drawn backward, let it launch you into action. You’re never defeated until you give up!
May your ventures be met with sucess!
I’ve done the same thing. This past wind storm on Mar 3rd, when I had no power for 36 hrs, lit a fire to get me a generator. Luckily, we had gotten a bonus at work and it happened to be on the paycheck we got that Friday. It’s been delivered, and now I just need to get it unboxed and run for a few hours and put in the garage in case it’s needed. Winter isn’t over around here.

Good deal. Got my tags for the pickup today and got it fired up. It’s sat for the last two years. I have a small generator that needs the carb rebuilt. The one I missed out on was twice the generator I currently have. Winter isn’t finished with us yet either, but it’s getting closer all the time.

Another smaller generator is on my list. I’ve been looking at something around 2500w. The one I bought was 5500w that will run on gas and propane.
